I had great difficulty in selecting only one verse for today. So here are verses 1-7. Wouldn't it be great if this was the first though we had each morning when we wake up?
1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
3 For the LORD is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
7 for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.

Human Emotion #2 Joy
Wikipedia doesn't have a definition for Joy. Joy points to Happiness. So okay I can handle that. The definition for Happiness from Wikipedia
So how do you find Joy? That seems to be a basic question many people have today. Just turn on the news and you will find no joy, only sadness. Look at the economy and there is certainly no joy there. So I scoured the internet in search of Joy. And then I found it. Right there in front of me. 50 ways to find Joy.
Did you know that petting your dog or cat brings you joy? It does, number 4 on the list. Going to bed earlier, brings you joy. Then all of a sudden there it was. Number 11, Look to the heavens. Stare at the stars? Okay, I don't get it. But, hey if that brings you joy. Did you know that climbing a tree will bring you joy. Nobody tell Robin, okay. Our insurance rates can't handle it. How about a tea party, anyone? That's number 17 by the way.
Take a detour, now that always brings joy. Number 25 buy bear gifts. Huh? Number 26, How about jumping up and down. I'm sure it doesn't always bring joy when your children do that at Walmart. Number 33, get involved in politics. Right, that is always joyful. Number 37 may get you arrested, blast your stereo and sing as loud as you can. If that doesn't work try cleaning your bathroom. Oh joy. Number 46, Do the Twist. "Oh let's twist again like we did last summer, let's humm, mumm, again like we did mumble mumble. I never said I could sing." Can you say trip to the chiropractor?
Anyway I think you get the picture. These methods of finding joy seem so temporary, so short-term. Surely there must be something better, something more permanent
I think that the only place to look for joy is to look to God. Read the following verses to know where joy comes from.
John 15:11
Acts 16:34
2 Corinthians 8:2
We should be joyful when we pray.
Colossians 1:10-12
1 Thessalonians 5:16

Happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy. A variety of philosophical, religious, psychological and biological approaches have striven to define happiness and identify its sources. From the Spiritual Practices website
Philosophers and religious thinkers often define happiness in terms of living a good life, or flourishing, rather than simply as an emotion. Happiness in this older sense was used to translate the Greek Eudaimonia, and is still used in virtue ethics.
Why is it that so many people go throughout life without any joy?
Joy is an essential spiritual practice growing out of faith, grace, gratitude,
hope, and love. It is the pure and simple delight in being alive. Joy is our
elated response to feelings of happiness, experiences of pleasure, and awareness
of abundance. It is also the deep satisfaction we know when we are able to serve
others and be glad for their good fortune.

New Testament Reading Plan
Well September 1st is almost here and we are going to attempt to read through the New Testament before the end of the year. During the week we will be reading 2-3 chapters each day and on the weekends 1-2.
Below is what I will post each morning around 5am, just in case you are a early riser. Technically I don't sleep anyway. The link will take you to the Biblegateway website and directly to the chapters we will be reading.

Below is a what the Biblegateway reading will look like. Of course no one says you need to read it online. Please if reading from your Bible is your preferred method of studying God's Word, then by all means.

Below is the tab that will hold the entire list of readings through the end of the year. If you know that you will not be checking online that early in the morning, then here you can see what the next days reading will be and you can plan ahead. Also you can print it off in case you will out of town.

I know this is a very aggressive endeavor. But once we get into the Word each day, it will soon become a habit, if it is not already. If you have any comments or suggestions please leave a comment on the Facebook page.

Human Emotion #1 Anger
The definition from Wikipedia on anger is
Some words of wisdom from the book of Proverbs:
Proverbs 15:1

James 1:20

Anger is an emotional state that may range from minor irritation to intense rage. The physical effects of anger include increased heart rate, blood pressure, and levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline. Some view anger as part of the fight or flight brain response to the perceived threat of harm. Anger becomes the predominant feeling behaviorally, cognitively, and physiologically when a person makes the conscious choice to take action to immediately stop the threatening behavior of another outside force. The English term originally comes from the term angry of Old Norse language. Anger can lead to many things physically and mentally.A quick search of Anger Management on Amazon.com returns 14,399 books on the topic. Including "Anger Management for Dummies". One would have to be a dummie to turn to that book when there is one book that has all the answers around anger. That book is the Bible. Anger appears over 270 times in the Bible and the vast majority revolve around God's righteous anger at His sinful, disobedient children.
Some words of wisdom from the book of Proverbs:
Proverbs 15:1
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.Proverbs 29:11
A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.Instructions on dealing with anger from the New Testament.
1 Corinthians 13:4-6
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.Ephesians 4:26
"In your anger do not sin" : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,Ephesians 4:31
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.Colossians 3:8
But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. The following verse is probably the most devastating verse that one can read. It really cuts to the heart of anger in our lives.
James 1:20
for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. If anger keeps us from living the life that God desires for us, then maybe we need to heed His words.

Why I decided to Twitter and create a Facebook page
By NCC
It all started several years ago on a day in May. If my RAM serves me right, I believe May 15, 2005. My halls and rooms were full of people of which I had only seen a few of before that day. The singing and the worship that day was just wonderful, as it has been every Sunday since then. At one point they began talking about the church. Ok naturally I think that they are talking about me. After all, I had been doing some research into these things. What is a church building?
Around this time my reach continued to grow as miles of Cat 6 or was it Cat 5, (oh, it all kinda feels the same to me), wire continued to stretch out into all parts of the building. I think we are up to about 3.7 miles of wiring so far, but I could be off a bit. Soon I was wired into everything that was going on in the church. Not to mention internet access, cable tv, and satellite. I had connections to every room, well almost every room, nobody wired the bathrooms for which I am forever grateful. They didn’t seem to wire Room 103 or the connection is bad. So I don’t really know what goes on in there. Maybe I don’t want to know.
Anyway, everything was going fine until one a day I heard Robin say that this church building is just a tool, a resource and that the building is not the church, but rather the people coming here make up the church. Whoa there buddy, what are you talking about. I was always led to believe that I was the church. I mean come on, I would hear people say “I sure am glad you came to our church today.” Or they would say “Welcome to our church.” After all the bills that come in the mail are addressed to Northside Christian Church. I imagine that no matter who you stopped along the road and asked, would point and say "That? Are you blind? That is the church."
And another thing, isn’t this place where people come to worship God, pray, read and study their Bibles? Where friends are made and lives are changed. Where kids learn about Jesus and parents do also. Where people talk to each other about Jesus and how He has changed their lives. I mean come on, where else are they going to do these things if not here in the church? Do people actually do these things away from me, the church?
I guess I needed to do some more research. I had questions and when one has questions. Google it. So I entered “0101011101101000011000010111010000100000011010010111001100100000011101000

Converted it’s “What is the Church?” The number one result was https://www.gotquestions.org/what-is-the-church.html Oh wow, I was devastated. I’m just a building, a resource, a tool. Obviously this was a changing moment in my existence. More research uncovered this from God's Word
1 Corinthians 12:12-20
I was none of these things. So the church is a body of believers made up of people. Come to think of it no two people look alike or act alike on Sunday mornings. Well except for maybe twins. Then I found this:
Ephesians 4:11-13
I soon realized that I could not be these things. It had to be the people. Finally I saw this and I knew:
Matthew 25:37-40
Soon after this discovery I began to notice a pattern. Sunday morning almost 2,000 people come in the front door and spread out through the rooms and hallways. And then everyone leaves. A few come back on Monday and Tuesday. Some children and teachers are here during the week along with the staff. Wednesday evening several hundred adults, youth and children show up. But it’s nothing like Sunday morning. I do get to listen to worship practice on Wednesday evening, it sounds great but it’s missing all the voices I am used to. Some strangers hang out in the CafĂ© during the mornings but they are just waiting on their school children. Maybe someone should invite them to the church so they aren’t strangers to me.
So I guess that gets us to this point. The question I asked myself, “How can I stay in touch with the church during the week?” Quite frankly sometimes it is a bit lonely up here. Teachers teaching and students learning. The staff is working hard as always. Once in a while when the weather is bad I get a few people walking laps around my hallways talking about what’s up in their lives. Even small groups want to meet in their homes. Does the church only happen on Sundays and Wednesday evenings? I think I was going through a relationship withdrawal during the week.
How could I solve this problem? Naturally turning to the internet I Googled “Relationships, peoples lives, disconnected, staying in touch”. The resounding answer was “Social Networking.” That was it. My circuits lit up. If they won’t come to me, I’ll go to them. I can share what’s going on up here and maybe they will share what’s going on in their lives during the week. I settled on Twitter and Facebook. While the latter seems much more popular, I am not giving up on Twitter. 140 character blasts of information are right up my alley.
Now maybe I will be able answer that nagging question? Is the church that shows on Sunday morning the same church that exists out in the world during the week? Only time will tell. So that is why I decided to Twitter and create a Facebook page.

1 Corinthians 12:12-20
12The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.
13For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
14Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.
15If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.
16And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.
17If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
18But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
19If they were all one part, where would the body be?
20As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
I was none of these things. So the church is a body of believers made up of people. Come to think of it no two people look alike or act alike on Sunday mornings. Well except for maybe twins. Then I found this:
Ephesians 4:11-13
11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,
12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
I soon realized that I could not be these things. It had to be the people. Finally I saw this and I knew:
Matthew 25:37-40
37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'
I haven't feed anyone, or gave anyone something drink or than my water fountains. I don't really invite in strangers, unless you count my sign out front. I haven't clothed anyone or gone to visit anyone. I don't get out much. It must be the people.
An illustration of what Jesus did for us. **Severe Tissue warning**
There was a certain professor of religion named Dr. Christianson, a studious man who taught at a small college in the western United States. Dr. Christianson taught a required course in Christianity at this Particular institution. Every student was required to take this course regardless of his or her major.
Although Dr. Christianson tried hard to communicate the essence of the Gospel in his class, he found that most of his students looked upon the course as nothing more than required drudgery. Despite his best efforts, most students refused to take Christianity seriously.
This year Dr. Christianson had a special student named Steve. Steve was only a freshman, but was studying with the intent of going on to Seminary. Steve was popular, well liked and an imposing physical specimen. He was the starting center on the school football team and the best student in the class.
One day, Dr. Christianson asked Steve to stay after class so he could
talk "how many push-ups can you do?"
Steve said, "I do about 200 every night."
"200? That's pretty good, Steve," Dr. Christianson said. "Do you think you could do 300?"
"I don't know," Steve replied, "I've never done 300 at a time."
"Do you think you could?" again asked the professor.
"Well, I could try," said Steve.
"Can you do 300 in sets of 10? I have a class project and I need you to do about 300 push-ups in sets of ten for this to work. Can you do it? I need you to tell me you can do it," said Dr. Christianson.
Steve said, "Well... I think I can... yeah, I can do it."
Dr. Christianson said, "Good! I need you to do this on Friday. Let me explain what I have in mind."
Friday came and Steve got to class early and sat in the front of the room. When class started, the professor pulled out a big box of donuts. Now these weren't the normal kind of donuts, these were the big fancy kind, with cream centers and frosting swirls. Everyone was pretty excited that it was Friday, the last class of the day, and they were going to get an early start on the weekend with a party in Dr. Christianson's class.
Dr. Christianson went to the first girl in the first row and asked,
"Cynthia would you like one of these donuts?" Cynthia said, "Yes please."
Dr. Christianson then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you please do ten push-ups so that Cynthia may have a donut?"
"Sure." Steve jumped down from the desk, did ten quick push-ups, and then returned to his desk. Dr. Christianson put a donut on Cynthia's desk.
Dr. Christianson then went to Joe, the next person, and asked, "Joe do you want a donut?"
Joe said, "Yes."
The professor asked, "Steve would you do ten push-ups so Joe can have a donut?"
Steve did ten push-ups and Joe got a donut. And so it went, down the first aisle. Steve did ten push-ups for each person before they received a donut. Dr. Christianson continued down the second aisle until he came to Scott.
Scott was on the basketball team, and in as good of physical condition as Steve. Scott was popular and never lacking female companionship. When the professor asked, "Scott would you like a donut?"
Scott's reply was, "Yes, if I can do my own push-ups."
Dr. Christianson said, "No, Steve has to do them."
Scott said, "Then I don't want one"
The professor shrugged and then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Scott can have the donut he doesn't want?"
With perfect obedience Steve started to do the push-ups.
Scott yelled, "HEY! I said I didn't want one!"
Dr. Christianson said sternly, "Look, this is my class, these are my desks, and these are my donuts. Just leave it on the desk if you don't want it" And he put a donut on Scott's desk.
Now by this time, Steve had begun to perspire and was starting to slow down a little. He just stayed on the floor between sets because it took too much effort to get up and down. As Dr. Christianson started down the third row, many students were beginning to get a little angry.
Dr. Christianson asked Jenny, "Jenny, do you want a donut?"
Jenny's answer was a firm, "No!"
Then Dr. Christianson asked Steve, "Steve, would you do ten more push-ups so Jenny can have a donut that she doesn't want?" Steve did ten...Jenny got a donut.
By now, a growing sense of uneasiness filled the room. The students were beginning to say "No" and there were all these uneaten donuts on the desks. Steve also had to put forth a lot of extra effort to get these push-ups done for each donut. There was a pool of sweat on the floor beneath his face and
his arms were beginning to turn red because of the physical effort being put forth.
Because Dr. Christianson could no longer bear to watch Steve's hard work go for all these uneaten donuts, he asked Robert, the most vocal unbeliever in the class, to watch Steve do each push-up to make sure he did all ten in each set.
As the professor started down the fourth row, he noticed some students from other classes had wandered in and sat down on the steps along the radiators that ran down the sides of the room. He did a quick count and saw that there were now thirty-four students in the room. He started to worry that Steve would not be able to make it. He went on to the next person and the next and the next. Near the end of the row, Steve was really having a hard time. It was taking a lot more time to complete each set.
Just then, Jason, a recent transfer student, came to the room. He was about to enter when at once all of the students yelled, "NO!! Don't come in!!" Jason didn't know what was going on.
Steve picked up his head and said, "No, let him come."
Professor Christianson said, "You realize that if Jason comes in you will have to do ten push-ups for him?"
"Yes, let him come in. Give him a donut."
Dr. Christianson said, "Okay Steve, I'll let you get Jason's out of
the way right now. Jason, do you want a donut?"
Not even knowing what was going on, Jason said, "Yes, I'll have a donut."
"Steve, will you do ten push-ups so that Jason can have a donut?"
Steve did ten very slow and labored push-ups. Jason, bewildered, was handed a donut and sat down.
Dr. Christianson finished the fourth row and started on the visitors seated by the radiators. Steve's arms were now shaking with each push-up in a struggle to lift himself against the force of gravity. Sweat was profusely dripping off of his face and there was no sound except his heavy breathing. By this time, there was not a dry eye in the room.
The very last two students in the room were two young women, both cheerleaders, and very well-liked. Dr. Christianson went to Linda and asked if she wanted a donut.
Linda said, very sadly, "No, thank you."
The professor quietly asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Linda can have a donut she doesn't want?" Grunting from the effort, Steve did ten very slow push-ups for Linda.
The Dr. Christianson turned to the last girl, Susan "Susan, do you
want a donut?"
Susan, with tears streaming down her face pleaded, "Dr.Christianson, why can't I help him?"
Dr. Christianson, with tears of his own, explained, "No, Steve has to do it alone. I have given him this task and he is in charge of seeing that everyone here has an opportunity for a donut whether they want it or not. When I decided to have a party this last day of class, I looked at my grade book. Steve is the only student with a perfect grade. Everyone else has failed a test, skipped class, or offered up inferior work. Steve told
me that in football practice when a player messes up, he has to do push-ups. I told Steve that none of you could come to the party unless he paid the price by doing your push-ups. He and I made a deal for your sakes.
Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Susan can have a donut?"
As Steve very slowly finished his last push-up, with the understanding that he had accomplished all that was required of him, having done 350 push-ups, his arms buckled beneath him and he fell to the floor.
Dr. Christianson turned to the room and said, "And so it was, that our Savior, Jesus Christ, plead to the Father, 'into Thy hands I commend my spirit.' With the understanding that He had accomplished all that was required of Him, He yielded up His life for us. And like some of those in this room, many leave the gift on the desk, uneaten."
Two students helped Steve up off the floor and to a seat, physically exhausted, but wearing a thin smile.
"Well done good and faithful servant," said the professor, adding, "Not all sermons are preached in words."
Turning to the class the professor said, "My wish is that you might understand and fully comprehend all the riches of grace and mercy that have been given to you through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God spared not His only begotten son, but gave him up for us and for the whole world, now and forever. Whether we choose to accept His gift to us, the price for our sins has been paid. Wouldn't it be foolish and wouldn't it be ungrateful just to leave it laying on the desk?"

Facebook Survey Results
I thought I would take the opportunity to present some of the results of our Facebook Survey. Thanks to the 33 Fans who took the time to give their input. The first question was designed to determine if we were creating too many links to other websites for helpful information. 79% thought is was just right, while 15% thought it was too much. As a result we will attempt to limit our links to valuable and informative information. The next question was designed to help us determine what those links should be. Below is a list of the top vote getters.
Spiritual Living 60%
Exploring God's Word 67%
Church Programs 60%
Christians in the Workplace 43%
Family 47%
We will continue to link to many of the different types of information in our original listing, including the one that I left off the list but was reminded of by a commenter, which was Education. We will try to focus on the list above since that seems to be what most are interested in.
Next we asked if we were linking back to the Church website enough. 83% thought it was just about right, while 17% thought we needed to do more. We are continuously monitoring the Church website for changes and updates. We will do our best to stay current and on top of Church events and activities.
With our next question we were looking for what changes or additional information you wanted to see between Facebook and our Church website. By far and wide “Pictures from events” was the winner at 89%. For the most part the only church photographers we have are you. So if you have pictures from church events that you would like to share, either post to your Facebook page and send me a email and I will link to your page for everyone to see or send your pictures to NorthsideCC.oh@gmail.com and I will post them here. A good example was all the pictures from the Pig Pit Classic that were shared for everyone to see. Like I said earlier we will attempt to stay current on events and programs that are going on at the church or are connected to the church.
Another item we asked about was the Sermons on the Church website. It was encouraging to see 35% of the respondents have listened to at least one sermon online. In response to some comments, the internet connection into the building is not the most reliable connection and sometimes things come up that are more important. But in general the sermons are uploaded to the website on Monday morning.
Next we asked you “How did you find out about us on Facebook?” Below are the responses:
Found on Facebook/Search 23%
In Church or Bulletin 35%
Friend 35%
Church Website 4%
Unknown 4%
Finally we asked you what you thought about certain types of content. 92% of you wanted to see more Christian videos including music. 96% wanted more G rated funny or interesting videos. Also 80% were fine with my random thoughts, but some thought I should lighten up on Robin and concentrate more on people like Zach or Ben or other members of the staff. Hey, I can do that. The problem was that Robin just provides so much material. Now I will have to follow the activities of the rest of the staff a little closer. That’s okay, there are reports and books out there that tell me that I am a great multi-tasker.
Also 81% of you like the idea of welcoming new fans. Finally, I wanted to respond to a comment about a post I made showing the difference between male and female fans. It was to show how the female fans seem more into relationships, even relationships out on a social network like Facebook and how men don’t seem to be interested one way or the other. That’s all for now.
